The WM868-R4-LP-H modules are most often used in applications of bus systems of the M-Bus or RS-485 type, which are widely used especially in the field of remote reading of consumption meters (“metering”, “smart metering”). The WM868-R4-LP-H module is used for data transfer between the WACO serial network and devices on the local two-wire bus according to the RS-485 standard.

As can be seen from the figure, the WM868-R4-LP-H module provides communication between “its” RS-485 bus segment and other virtual WACO bus segments. The module can be used to connect both the main bus segment (if this segment is RS-485) and any remote segment. In both cases, it receives messages from local devices on the RS-485 bus and forwards these messages to the WACO radio network, in the opposite direction it receives messages from the WACO radio network and forwards them to the local bus.

Data transfer takes place in an application of the “Virtual BUS” type, where data messages are transmitted over the radio network completely transparently, no data conversion takes place. Although it is possible to connect remote segments to a physical bus of different types (remote M-Bus and RS-485 are shown in the figure), all devices on the bus (“Master” and “Slave”) must use the same communication protocol.

The module is enclosed in a plastic box adapted for mounting on a DIN-rail. The module requires an external 24 V DC supply. The module is not suitable for outdoor installation without additional protection.
