WM868-R2-LP-H modules are most often used in applications of data bus systems (RS-485, M-Bus, RS-232) which are widely used especially in the field of remote reading of consumption meters (“metering”, “smart metering ”). The WM868-R2-LP-H module is used for data transmission between the WACO radio network and devices on the local two-wire bus according to the RS-232 standard. The principle of using the module in the M-Bus and RS-485 bus system is shown in Figure 1.

As can be seen from the figure, the WM868-R2-LP-H module provides communication between “its” device connected via the RS-232 serial line and other segments of the WACO virtual bus. The module can be used to connect both the main bus segment (if the bus master is equipped with an RS-232 interface) and any remote segment. In both cases, it receives messages from the local device via the RS-232 serial line and forwards these messages to the WACO radio network, in the opposite direction it receives messages from the WACO radio network and forwards them to the serial line.

Data transfer takes place in an application of the “Virtual BUS” type, where data messages are transmitted over the radio network completely transparently, no data conversion takes place.

The module is enclosed in a plastic box adapted for mounting on a DIN-rail. The module requires an external 24 V DC supply. The module is not suitable for outdoor installation without additional protection.
